Visting Artist

October 22, 2008 by Suzanne Kinavey

We are proud to add a new section to our website called Visiting Artists.   I am lucky enough to get to know very talented artists and craftspeople.  Each quarter, I would like to introduce you to one of my favorites.  Please take a look at the creative  work.  Just go where the purses are, and you will find her.   There are purses on the first few pages and also on the last few pages.

Rebecca Mc Kenna is one of my favorite people in the world, no kidding!  She is my daughters friend, my  nieces friend and she is my friend.  Lucky us.  Anyway, Rebecca Mc Kenna lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband (who is a paleontologist!), and two cats.  Trained an an architect, she is passionate about all things well-designed, simple and functional.  She took her first sewing lesson when she was four and has been creating objects with her hands ever since!

Her line of hand-made baby quilts and kimono wraps combine her interest in design with her inherent need to construct.  Whimsical, modern and original, Rebecca's  baby products are crafted with quality, and often repurposed, materials, an obsessive eye on the details, and an emphasis on practicality (everything she makes is washer/dryer safe and pre-shrunk.)

Mid weight quilts are approximately 45"x60".  With primitive designs inspired by nature (tree, flowers, fish), these blankets are both decorative and functional.  The Kimono wraps are fully lined, come in four sizes (0-6, 6-12, 12-18, and 18-24 months), and sport either Velcro or tie closures.
